Solar energy is one of the cleanest and the most abundant renewable sources of power available to generate electricity, thermal energy, etc.

Therefore, the demand for solar lighting and technologies to harness solar heat is continuously increasing to promote sustainability and make the world a better place to live.

Furthermore, it is a great way to reduce carbon footprints as solar energy helps in conserving fossil fuels. No doubt, with low initial cost and electricity bills, solar power products are gaining popularity across the globe.

However, due to the dynamic environment and constant upgrades, there are misconceptions around people about accepting it as a conventional source of energy. To break the scepticism, here are some common myths about solar-powered products.

Solar-powered products: Myths and facts

Myth #1- Solar lighting is expensive

Fact- Solar energy used to be expensive, but today this statement is no longer true. Whether you want outdoor solar LED lighting or indoor solar lights,  installing solar panels has now become easy and affordable. Also, compared to other sources like gas, oil and coal, which are now expensive with time, solar energy is quite considerable and cheaper while being abundant to be used desirably.

Myth #2- Solar panels do not generate much power in cold weather

Fact– One of the biggest misconceptions about solar-powered products is that they will not run in cloudy weather or a cold season. But that’s not true. Solar panels are efficient in working throughout the year. India has 300 sunny days per year, and in tropical conditions, 1kW of solar-powered systems can generate an average of 3.5-4 units of energy in a calendar year. For running smoothly, solar-powered products require an ambient temperature of 25 degrees which is likely to be available in 300 days.

Myth #3- Solar power systems require a lot of maintenance

Fact– Solar lighting panels are robust and are manufactured to be operational for about 25 years. Plus, they do not include dynamic parts to generate power. Hence, there are minimal chances of wear and tear that happens due to friction. This becomes one of the major reasons for the longevity of the product. Furthermore, the maintenance will require a cleaning of the parts every twice or thrice a month. Just a jet pressure of water and wiping with suitable wipers will be enough. Thus, solar power systems do not require heavy maintenance, instead, it is a low maintenance asset economically viable.

Myth #4- Solar panels damage the roof

Fact– Contrary to the myth, solar panels actually protect and preserve the covered portion of the roof. They can shield shingles, hail and damage from the sun. In addition, they are easily moveable systems which give a great opportunity to clean the area and renovate accordingly. Moreover, the panels are not attached directly to the top, instead, mounted on the railing. And, the railing system is connected to the truss of the roof, making solar panel parts removable to clean the covered roof hassle-freely.

Conclusion

Now that some prime myths are busted, people should go for solar-powered products such as solar LED lighting and make others aware of developing an eco-friendly environment. Incorporating solar panels will only limit gas emissions and lead to fruitful climatic changes. Especially in India, which is blessed with immense sunlight, considering solar-powered products from reputed brands like Solarise by Wipro lighting.
