Down syndrome and foot

Some of the friends I know have a special condition called Trisomy 21 or Down Syndrome. They have a variety of skin, bone, muscle and joint conditions that contribute to the development of anomalous collagen. One type of collagen (type VI) is encoded by a gene on 21 chromosomes. The result is a softening of the joints that connect the bones to the bones, or an increase in the connections that connect the bones (muscles). Relaxation and hypotension can lead to a variety of conditions in people with Down syndrome. These conditions are aggravated by walking pressure and the weight of the feet. I would like to talk about some of the most common causes of Down syndrome.

Foot type:

The legs are usually wide and short at birth. Some metatarsus adductus shoes

may have more space between the big toe and the other toe than usual. Although these conditions are not a medical problem, wearing shoes can aggravate the situation and lead to many problems, especially with the longevity of these people over time.

Conditions with Down Syndrome:

Pes Planus, or flat feet, is more common in Down syndrome. In fact, this type of foot is common in most people. This condition can be exacerbated by restless walking (excessive stress leveling) or mild hypotension, and allows for more clarification (leveling of the feet). In both cases, the benefits of orthopedics or footwear can help to create a perfect pattern for stretching and walking. It reduces fatigue and allows a person to be more active and engaged.

Another problem with Pes Planus is that the shoes are not fit. Standard insoles in shoes can irritate the feet and increase stomach formation, increase foot fatigue and reduce activity. Orthopedic surgeons can help with this problem.

The metatarsus compound, or metatarsals (the back of the toes) fold inwards, especially with the first metatarsal or metatarsal of the big toe (metatarsus primus varus). Since this condition may spread to the legs, the painful advantage within the first metatarsal (within the big toe) may indicate good unemployment. Initial cases, especially mild ones, can be treated with orthopedics as mentioned earlier. In more severe cases, surgical correction may be needed. My recommendation is that if you have leg pain, it limits your chances of continuing the operation and / or doing the normal thing.

Muscle hypotension can cause the hammer or thumb to contract over time. Depending on the severity of the problem, this condition can be treated with fillers, orthopedics, or surgical correction. The most common cause of pain is rubbing the toes on the shoes.

Calculation is common due to changes in skin collagen, foot structure, bone preferences, or changes in the movement of the feet. To reduce stress, it is recommended to wear the right shoes, adjust the insole with orthopedics, and / or cut the calf after increasing the thickness and take precautions. Some liquids can also be useful, including a lotion called Atrocan in our office.

The purpose of taking care of the feet of older people with Down Syndrome is to improve their performance and keep them active. As mentioned earlier, this can be done with proper shoes, orthopedics and, in rare cases, surgery. The Down Syndrome Foot is a unique unit, but it can be fully functional and lead a person to a full life.
